This downright terrifying Spanish horror reinvigorates the genre, reminding us that it's not all about "gore for the sake of gore" or cheap teen slasher flicks. One of the very few horror films to scare me in a good few years, you'd be hard pressed to find a more satisfyingly scary movie experience this side of the century.

Blood? Check! Dead bodies? Check! 299+ muscle bound Spartan warriors? Check! This is a balls-to-the-wall, bloody mess of a movie in the best possible way. Probably will lose it's appeal on DVD but it is an astonishing visual feast none the less.
